Hard water resistance

The hard water resistance performance of surfactant mainly shown in two aspects, self-withstand capability to Calcium ion and Magnesium ion, and dispersant capability to calcium soap.

In hard water, soap meet with Calcium ion and Magnesium ion will produce insoluble Calcium salt and Magnesium salt, so decrease the detergency of soap. Surfactant create mixed micelle together with the soap in the hard water, block the Calcium ion, Magnesium ion and soap creating reversed micelle, no precipitate will be produced, so the anti-hard water capability of soap is improved.

Betaine amphoteric surfactant show excellent stability to Calcium ion and Magnesium ion, especially most of sulfobetaine amphoteric surfactant has stability over 1800mg/L to Calcium ion. Sulfate ester betaine, phosphate ester betaine, amide sulfobetaine have even better capability of hard water resistance.
